Often times when we hear about a highway worker killed on the job, weforget about the families that rely on them and the financial repercussions that result from a missing income. Seeking post high school education may no longer be a reality for these children in the wake of a tragic work zone accident.

With your help, APC is working to help the children of our fallen colleagues. Priced at $10 apiece, the funds generated from the sale of these license plates will go to a positive cause. All proceeds will be donated to the Lanford Family Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship Fund, a fund set up by the American Road and Transportation Builders Association's Transportation Development Foundation, to ensure that the children of highway workers killed or permanently disabled in highway work zone accidents will be able to seek post high school education.

Since 2000, four students from Pennsylvania have received scholarships from the Foundation. This year, Brianna Keefe of Wyalusing, Pa. will receive a scholarship. Here's what this program means to her:

"The scholarship has allowed me to enjoy my college experience without the overwhelming shadow of debt. It has permitted my family and me to visit one another, though we are hundreds of miles apart. And most importantly, it has helped my mother take care of her three daughters while maintaining two jobs. This scholarship is a financial and emotional blessing--not only for me, but for my entire family."

These license plates will also take this important message to the highways, where it will have the most impact. Help us to increase public awareness of this problem by furnishing your vehicles and entire fleets with these license plates. If even one life is spared, our efforts will be well worth the investment.
