US Infrastructure Committee Releases “Blueprint”

The long-awaited legislation reauthorizing the nation’s surface transportation committee was released in kind today as House Infrastructure Chairman Oberstar and Republican Chairman Mica released the “Surface Transportation Authorization Act of 2009 – A Blueprint for Investment and Reform”.

The document suggests the need for a six-year funding level of $450 billion (SAFETEA-LU was $326) The plan suggests funding levels for highway construction, motor carrier and highway safety, public transit, high speed rail, and congestion mitigation. It does not appear to recommend how to fund these levels of investment. The documents may be accessed by going here.
