PennDOT Announces Emergency Procurement for Some Salt Storage Buildings


The Department of Transportation is soliciting bids under emergency procurement procedures to demolish, design, and build 146 buildings used for salt storage across the Commonwealth. The design and build structures will consist of Husky and Hi-Arch Gambreil wood building used to store salt and will range in size from 120' x 80' to 36' x 45'. The buildings have been grouped by geographic regions and will be bid and awarded in that fashion. A total of 8 contracts will be awarded and contractors may bid on any combination of the eight groups. Due to the criticality of these buildings to PennDOT's winter operations, all structure demolitions and builds must be completed by the upcoming winter season.

Here is the timeline for this emergency bidding procedure:

  • Wednesday, August 25 – Announcement to Contracting Community on Upcoming Solicitation
  • Monday, August 30 – Releases Emergency Solicitation
  • Friday, September 3 – Mandatory Pre-Bid Conference in Harrisburg
  • Friday, September 10 - Bids Due
  • Monday, September 13 - Notification to Apparent Successful Contractors
  • Monday, September 20 – Bonds Due
  • Tuesday, September 21 – Award/Notice to Proceed
  • Wednesday, September 22 – Initial Job Conference with Contractor
  • On or before Friday, December 31 – Construction completed
