SESSION ONE

Autonomous & Connected Vehicles and Their Implications for the Design and Construction Industry

  • Dan Corey, PE, Deputy ITS Practice Leader, AECOM
  • Mark C. Kopko, Manager, Traveler Information & Advanced Vehicle Technology, PennDOT
    • How PennDOT is preparing for the deployment of connected and automated vehicles. The presentation will provide background information on connected and automated technology, their implications to the transportation industry, and PennDOT approach to addressing this rapidly evolving technology.

3D Model-Centric Bridge Design

  • Joe Brenner, PE, Lead Structural Engineer, WSP USA
  • Nick Seman, EIT, Gannett Fleming
    • Typically, the transportation industry views 3D bridge models as only a visualization and public outreach tool.  This presentation offers an alternative view in which the model is developed for multiple purposes including plans production, structural analysis, and quantity/schedule generation.  Several real-world project examples will be provided, and the implications of these models beyond the design phase will be discussed.

BrIM in Structural Steel Fabrication

  • Bradley J. Dillman, PE, Vice President of Engineering, High Steel Structures LLC
    • Bridge Information Modeling (BrIM) is a powerful tool being developed in the transportation industry. A 3-D virtual representation–a model–is most often associated with BrIM. This presentation offers a steel fabricator’s perspective on the true power of this tool–the data behind a 3-D virtual representation–and the current uses in fabrication, the benefits and the future potential in the industry.

SESSION TWO

Aerial Photo & Video/Drones

  • Derek Lau, Executive Producer/Owner, aideM Media Solutions
  • Craig Peck, Owner/Operator, Flying Media
    • Use of Drone Technology for Project Management and Marketing.

Traffic/Mobility Analytics

  • Daniel P. Farley, Chief, Traffic Operations Deployment and Maintenance Section, PennDOT
    • How PennDOT is using large vehicle probe and crowd source information to begin to better plan, design, deploy, operate, and maintain work zones throughout the commonwealth. The presentation will provide real-world examples of work zone applications and how this data and metrics can be used to improve the safety and congestion within work zones.

The Untapped Power of Social Media

  • Kara Luzik Canale, Public Relations Director, Sacunas
    • We know what social media outlets like Facebook are. Do we know how to use them to our advantage? Or recognize when we get it right? This presentation takes a deep dive into social media strategies that get results. Participants will learn how to leverage social media to create great content, increase engagement, and meet advocacy and business goals. Through a discussion of core social media principles and key performance indicators, participations will discover strategies that allow them to immediately create a roadmap to reach business goals and increase ROI.
