Rep. Joseph Markosek to Chair
House Transportation Committee

Monroeville Democrat Joe Markosek, recently sworn in for his 13th term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, will chair the House Transportation Committee in the new legislative session.

The assignment comes at a pivotal time for Pennsylvania, following the report late last year of the Transportation Funding and Reform Commission acknowledging that the state’s transit and highway systems are enmeshed in a funding crisis.

“Representative Markosek is a very capable legislator who understands the importance of sound highway and mass transit systems in maintaining and improving our quality of life in Pennsylvania,” said Ronald Drnevich, president of the PA Highway Information Association, the largest statewide association dedicated to promoting the importance and value of a safe highway system. “We look forward to working with him to develop lasting solutions to this funding crisis.”

As chairman, Markosek will serve on several key statewide boards, including the State Transportation Commission which is responsible for evaluating and determining the condition and performance of the Commonwealth’s transportation system as well as assessing the resources required to preserve, restore, extend, and expand transportation facilities and services to conserve Pennsylvania’s communities and ensuring economic development of the Commonwealth.
