APC President Chuck Niederriter and Executive Bob Latham this week participated in a stakeholders’ call with US DOT Secretary Elaine Chao. Secretary Chao noted the importance of a good highway network to the COVID-19 recovery both in terms of economics and safety health issues. She offered the opinion that a further stimulus package would include relief for state and local governments. AASHTO has proposed a $50 billion bailout for state DOTs. Earlier, packages included $25 billion for public transit, $10 billion for airports, $1 billion for AMTRAK, and $50 billion for airlines. ARTBA Chairman Steve McGough, CFO of HCSS were among those making comments.
