On October 19, 2018, Act 86 was signed into law bringing automated speed enforcement technology in work zones to Pennsylvania. The passage of this new, groundbreaking effort would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of many within the highway construction industry who feverishly lobbied their elected officials about the dangers they face every day working within highway work zones. Speeding in work zones is by far the most cited danger highway workers say they face in carrying out their daily tasks.

Sadly, this law is set to expire at the end of 2023. Various pieces of legislation have been drafted to renew the law and by doing so, continue to provide a tool to keep highway construction zones safe.
