Several candidates for governor and legislators have called for reduction or eliminating the gas tax, implementing a “Gas Tax Holiday”. APC has been in contact with several campaigns and members of legislative leadership pointing out the fallacy of the notion that gas taxes have a significant impact on the price of fuel at the pump. Remember, the PA gas tax level hasn’t changed since 2016 and the federal gas tax of 18.4 cents per gallon has been in place since 1994. The APC executive committee met March 11 and adopted a policy on the gas tax. Go here to review the policy. It contains a link to an ARTBA study showing that there is not much bang for the buck on reducing the gas tax.
