Thoughts and prayers for former Gov. Tom Ridge. APC sends it thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery to former Governor Tom Ridge. Ridge suffered a stroke on Wednesday morning at his Bethesda, Maryland home, and was in critical but stable condition following a successful procedure to remove a blood clot, according to a statement issued by the Ridge family. Ridge served as Pennsylvania’s governor from 1995 to 2001 when he departed to become the first Secretary of the Office of Homeland Security created after the September 11th terrorist attack on our nation. Ridge was also instrumental in the passage of Act 3, which was a significant transportation funding package enacted in 1997. Get well, Governor!

Alternative put forward by Sen. Langerholc. Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Wayne Langerholc (R-Cambria) held a press conference this week proposing an alternative way to finance PennDOT’s P3 Bridge Tolling proposal put forward last November. Langernolc introduced a legislative blueprint entitled the “DRIVE SMART Act” which includes a plan to use federal GARVEE bonds to fund the nine bridges earmarked for tolling under the department’s plan. The DRIVE SMART Act also contains several other legislative proposals that would provide reforms and investments for the Commonwealth’s multimodal transportation system. More information about the DRIVE SMART Act can be found here.
